Northport opened its doors in 1989 and is the organizations five apartment, 15 bed transitional housing facility for single parent families. Admission criteria require that the heads of households be enrolled in or in the process of enrolling in an educational upgrade or training program. Such programs could range from remediation to college level courses.
Additionally, they must be willing to participate in all programs or sponsored activities. The parent must have a source of income as the affordable program payments are calculated on a percentage of that income.
Families are also responsible for paying their respective electric, telephone and trash bills. SCCHS provides the Northport residents with a variety of advocacy services designed to facilitate and expedite the achievement of family self-sufficiency.
Historically, the residents have learned quickly to "juggle" the multiple responsibilities of school, work, childcare and home management in their self-directed efforts to attain those goals.
The maximum length of stay at Northport is one year.
