SCCHS is dedicated to providing safe and secure temporary housing to the homeless while facilitating housing independence
Sussex Community Crisis Housing Services, Inc (SCCHS), has been providing shelter and supportive services to homeless individuals and families since 1981. The agency’s atmosphere creates an environment that nurtures personal and family dignity, enhances self-esteem and promotes independence, housing stability and financial security.
As the economy and housing market has changed so have the "faces of homelessness", SCCHS never missed a beat in meeting the needs of the newly homeless.
Special programs were developed to serve the emerging 55+ female homeless population and new partnerships were forged to find adequate permanent housing for our clients.
For the first time in agency history we had a single mother partner with Habitat for Humanity and move into her own home in December 2010. Following in Charlene's footsteps, Our second family, Danielle and son Raymond settled into their Habitat home in June 2011. We are very proud of both our families, making a difference for themselves and their children.
Our transitional housing program also underwent changes, after a short stay at the Crisis House, we accepted a single father into our traditionally female program. He proved to be a great addition to the program, meeting all the necessary requirements. Along with our first single father, we also afforded the opportunity of transitional housing to our first grandmother/granddaughter family. Both families are thriving and look forward to success and housing independence in the near future.
We are currently conducting our Annual Appeal for financial assistance. Our funding has been drastically decreasing and with your help we can continue to meet the growing needs of the many homeless families affected by the struggling economy.
